Australia

Salty and I rented "Australia" tonight and I just had to let you know what a great movie it was. I was expecting a ho-hum, strange Baz Lurhman production and boy was I surprised.

The movie is set in the late 30's and tells the story of a proper English wife that travels to the Outback to retrieve her philandering husband.
Her notions of Australia and her cheating husband are turned on edge.

Although the character development is a bit thin, the story is a bit corny and predictable, and the length a bit long (2:45) there were many times I was on the edge of my seat, unsure of where the plot was headed. This is a love story set with hard knocks and a go get 'em spirit. Lots of action, race tensions, love lost and war. Add the sweeping vistas and scenery of Australia and the charm of a half aborigine - half white young boy (who will steal your heart), and this was a hit for me.

I rate this a two hankie movie, so have a few tissues at hand if you are a crier like me.

  4. Thanks for the review. I never watch movies unless I have a "personal review" I don't have time, usually fall asleep and can't sit still long enough. Yet, if it's recommended I'm all about it! I just took Ash and the BF daughter to see Bolt (very cute) and then Marley and Me. I read the book, and the movie was OK. I hate when you read the book and the movie so leaves out like everything! LOL

But now I think I will!

I thought you were going to announce that you were going to AUSTRALIA...so I was going to tell you I was coming with! Whether you wanted me to or not! lol!

  6. Thanks for the review - I just asked my mom yesterday if she had seen it (she had) and if it was any good (she said yes, definitely). Sounds rather long though, dangerous for me, I could fall asleep before it's over!
